10 Easy Self Love Routine Ideas to Brighten Your Day

holistic health May 05, 2021

It's easy to fall into a negative routine and start feeling like everything is going wrong.

Your alarm didn't go off in the morning, your coffee spilled all over the kitchen counter, and traffic was terrible!

Self-love routines are important habits to staying healthy, energized, and happy. Here are 10 self-care routine ideas for the morning routine, noon, and night that you can start today that have the power to transform your day!

Meet your new morning ritual

#1 Think about someone else before you start your day

The first thing that your new morning routine should consist of is thinking about someone else.

When you wake up, don't focus on the tasks you need to complete for work and your personal life. Instead, think about a person who would like some affirmations, compassion, and love.

Start your day with the intention of what small action you'll take towards helping them.

It could be as simple as sending encouraging words through text messages or planning to stop and get flowers and a card to drop off after work.

When you start your day with the intention of helping others and creating kindness in the world, it brings positive light into everything that follows throughout your day.

#2 Speak positive affirmations in the mirror

A great morning routine should always involve you speaking some positive affirmations over your life.

I find it best to do this in the mirror to speak directly to myself and see my eyes.

It's effortless to sleepwalk through the motions of your morning ritual (holla all you non-morning people!). However, it's more rewarding to take a moment each morning and reflect on what you're grateful for in your personal life.

You'll find that this morning ritual of self-love will make you feel empowered as well as want to feel positive feelings about where your day is headed.

A lot of people don't realize how powerful their words are over their mental health and self-esteem.

When you're saying things like "this day will be great," or "I can do anything," -- those thoughts become self-fulfilling prophecies!

Take five minutes to start your day by saying affirmations to yourself in the mirror.

Say them with conviction, so they sink deep down into your subconscious mind and see how it changes the rest of your day.

#3 Start a morning meditation ritual

No morning routine should be without meditation.

This is a powerful morning ritual and can really make you feel good and shake off any stress carried over from the night before.

Try meditating for at least five minutes before heading into work or starting your daily task.

If you don't know how to get started with meditation, here are some free helpful tips:

  • Sit comfortably on the floor or in a chair.
  • Make room around your body, so there is no uncomfortable pressure anywhere
  • Close your eyes gently as if they were falling shut of their own accord without any effort from yourself.
  • Remain still and take slow deep breaths into your nose and exhale out your mouth
  • Focus on one positive word that makes you feel inspired or uplifted.
  • Repeat that word in your mind, silently and slowly.
  • As you inhale, let the breath find where your body is holding in negative emotion, then on your exhale, breathe it out.

This morning routine will transform your mental health and body.

Suppose you have a hard time sitting still and want something more active than meditation. In that case, you can always substitute meditating with an exercise like yoga or tai chi and receive similar benefits.

#4 Wake up early

This morning routine tip may seem more like a punishment than a positive practice.

Not everyone is a morning person, but waking up early is a self-care routine with many benefits.

First, it gives you more time to actually be successful in implementing a morning routine!

Second, it gives you time to ease into your morning without feeling rushed by your priorities.

Third, waking up early in the morning is a common habit among highly productive and successful people.

What better way to show your some self-love than wake up early every morning and not waste any time with your day?!

Self love routines for any day of the week

#5 Take 10-minutes to be a kid

Adult life can be a grind.

The hours in a day seem to race on by every day, and we get exhausted by our responsibilities.

This can create a negative outlook on life if we are not careful!

Set your alarm to remind yourself to take 10-minutes out of your day to access and show compassion to your inner child.

There's no better self-care exercise like letting go of inhibitions and having a good old time, with no worries about what other people think or say.

As children, we have no problem being free to explore our creativity without any judgments whatsoever.

Do you remember when an hour felt like forever and the simple things got you excited?

Tap back into that for 10-minutes and see how your feelings positively change.

Show some love and compassion to that inner child and let em' out!

This self-love routine tip will have you feeling good and grateful in no time.

#6 Dance to your favorite high school song

This self-love tip is similar to tapping into that inner child.

When you dance to your favorite song from high school, you get that beautiful burst of nostalgia with a killer physical workout.

The endorphins will kick in, and before you know it, your day just got better (or at least less annoying).

And if you are one of those brave souls to do this in a public area, people may join in on the dance!

This self-love tip can be done anywhere at any time. Try it during a break from work or in your car through a drive-thru line; even try it looking in the mirror if you must!

The more fun we make our day, the happier life becomes!

So tap into those happy memories of music and dancing to get through any rough patches today.

#7 Practice 5 minutes of gratitude

Gratitude gives our emotions room to shift from negative thoughts of anger and self-pity to feelings of joy and hopefulness by taking notice of the positive things in our life.

Gratitude is an incredible tool because it enables us to find happiness even when things aren't perfect or going our way.

It is a minor action that leads to significant outcomes!

It only takes five minutes of counting things that make you happy or grateful.

Some simple examples of things you could be grateful for are:

  • A good night’s sleep in a cozy bed
  • The relationships you have in your life
  • A hot cup of coffee or tea in the morning
  • That you are healthy

When you stop and create space within your day to be thankful for what you do have, rather than resentful about what you don't have, your whole life changes in a very positive way!

If we all practiced gratitude for just five minutes every day, the world would experience much more love and happiness.

#8 Take a nap

If you are a parent, then you are rolling your eyes right now at this self-love idea.

However, taking a nap (preferably by an open window with a breeze) is a perfect way to recharge your batteries and take a break from the stresses of life.

It doesn't have to be for long either!

Even if it's just 20 minutes, this will do wonders for your mood later in the day.

Your work and important tasks can wait another hour...so go find a bed and get some sleep!

#9 Take a hot bath

Now we are getting into those self-love tips that don't need any convincing!

At the end of the day, there is nothing better than soaking in a hot bath with bubbles, candles, and wine (or whatever your favorite drink or snack might be).

This will help your brain unwind at the end of a busy day and soothe and relax tight muscles.

It also helps relieve tension and support deep breathing while lowering blood pressure - all needed for self-care!

So what in your life are you waiting for? Go draw up that bath because you deserve it!

#10 Take a walk in nature

Suppose you have extra time at the start of your day (because you're waking up earlier now ;)).

In that case, walking in nature is an excellent addition to your morning routine.

However, a nature walk is excellent for a mid-day or end-of-the-day physical activity.

Being close to trees, waterfalls, rivers, or mountains is a sure way to feel rejuvenated and inspired after you've been sitting at your desk all day!

The fresh air alone can be enough, but even if it's not outside, there are always parks nearby where we could go take a stroll with our dog or children.

We need more time outdoors as humans, and incorporating this into our lives will make us happier people on the inside too!

It helps with mental well-being as it helps improve moods, reduce blood pressure, increase self-esteem, and promotes creativity.

A walk can be a way to explore new areas of town too - who knows what things you'll discover if you take an unexpected turn?

Allowing yourself to get lost a little bit is a great way to break out of the monotony of your daily routine and give yourself a break.

Are you ready for some self care?

It's easy for many people to develop habits in life that don't promote self-love.

And a lot of these tips may seem trivial and straightforward.

However, it's important to try these exercises in your daily life for at least a week to see if you feel an improvement in your mental outlook on your day.

Try writing in a journal to keep track of your progress and review it as part of your morning routine.

As you start to implement these self-love habits into your daily life, you will begin to feel a lightness in your physical and emotional being.

So make sure to create the space to support your newfound superpowers, and don't forget to share this post with anyone else you think needs a little more self-love in their life!
